24th August 2005
XCEL Power Systems Ltd announced today that they have received formal contract notification for Eurofighter Tranche 2 power supply products worth over $7,500,000.

The contract will cover production of three XCEL power supply designs, for use in the Defensive Aids Sub System (DASS) suite of Electronic warfare products provided by Selex Sensors and Airborne Systems (formerly BAE Systems). Following a successful implementation in Tranche 1 of the Eurofighter Typhoon program, and an extensive modification program for Tranche 2 pre-production units, XCEL have been selected as supplier for Tranche 2, a requirement which comprises some 236 aircraft plus spares.

Commenting on the contract, Richard Weller, General Manager of XCEL Power Systems Ltd, stated 'This represents XCEL's largest contract award to date, and reflects the success of a long term technical development program between ourselves and the customer. Our ability to manage long term contracts and obsolescence issues has been a critical element of this program award, and our Lean Manufacturing initiative has resulted in XCEL being able to offer a cost reduction in comparison to the Tranche 1 contract. The build program, which will run 2006 through 2009, will help to secure several manufacturing jobs, and we hope to see further requirements when the Eurofighter Typhoon is selected by other potential export customers.'

Graham Jefferies, Executive Vice President of Emrise Corporation commented, ' XCEL Power Systems' pedigree on the Eurofighter Typhoon EW programme is exemplary. With production orders now secure for Tranche 2, the company has confirmed it's position as a leading supplier to the European Defence & Avionics market '.
