Vac Aero Expands into Poland

In the last 15 years Poland has seen considerable direct investment by American, Canadian, and Western European aerospace companies. During the pre-1990 Soviet years, Poland was one of the main centers of Soviet Bloc aerospace activity.
After the collapse of the Soviet Bloc, Polish skilled labor and engineering resources, experienced and competitively priced, were underutilized. Since the entry of several large companies (Sikorsky, Pratt & Whitney Canada, Pratt and Whitney America, EADS, Goodrich, and others) in this region, special processes became one of the bottlenecks of the Polish aerospace market.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, VAC AERO established a plant in Kalisz (central Poland) in 2003 which offers a variety of special processes, including heat treating and brazing, inorganic paint, plasma coating, and metallographic lab services. Since the accession of Poland into the European Union in 2004, foreign investment in aerospace has increased even further. The Kalisz facility has grown and now employs close to 50 employees dedicated to offering special processes to an ever-growing number of aircraft and turbine engine component manufacturers.

To meet an increasing demand for heat treating services at its Polish division, VAC AERO is building a new VAV 4872 HV-1.5 high vacuum bottom loading furnace to be commissioned in late July. The furnace’s hot zone consists of graphite felt insulation with a carbon composite hot face and curved graphite heating elements and uses United Vacuum mechanical pumps and a Varian 35” diffusion pump. The furnace will be capable of heating loads of up to 3000 lbs up to 2400 F° and uses VAC AERO’s most advanced control system featuring Honeywell HC900 hybrid controller and Honeywell PlantScape Vista supervisory system running on a PC with a touch screen interface.

Since the opening of the Kalisz, Poland facility in 2003, VAC AERO has continued to add numerous OEM coating and heat treating approvals including; CPW 33 series for plasma spray coatings, CPW 420 series for inorganic paint coatings, CPW 21 series for heat treating, AMS 2675 for vacuum furnace brazing and CPW 417 for vacuum furnace honeycomb brazing. Apart from its numerous approvals, VAC AERO Kalisz is also proud to announce AS9100 quality certification for the Kalisz facility. Only companies with high level aerospace quality systems obtain this approval. VAC AERO Kalisz is now well established as a dominant player in the Polish aerospace special processing market. The addition of AS9100 approval will ensure its continued growth in this region.
