: 17 December, 2009  (Application Story)
The Undersea Warfare Centre of the US Navy has chosen to use BAE Systems for the development and maintenance of sonar systems for naval vessels
BAE Systems will provide software engineering and other technical services under a $21 million contract with the US Naval Undersea Warfare Centre (NUWC). The company will develop, maintain, and test software for sonars and other operational systems on ships and submarines and provide information technology support for Web-based documentation and data storage.

“Our employees have supported the Navy in Rhode Island for more than 30 years, and this continues the work we’ve long provided to NUWC and armed service personnel,” said Ian Rankin, vice president of strategic programs at BAE Systems’ Technology Solutions & Services business.

The five-year contract, which runs to 2014, was awarded competitively under the Navy’s Seaport-e contracting platform for acquiring engineering and other support services.

Work will be performed at BAE Systems facilities in Groton, Connecticut, and Middletown, Rhode Island, and onsite at NUWC headquarters in Newport, Rhode Island. About 140 BAE Systems employees are based at these locations, providing a range of solutions and services for the Navy.
