Thuraya Telecommunications Co.
: 03 September, 2009  (Company News)
With many solutions and products aimed at the military and security sector, Thuraya will be a major exhibitor at a key London defence show next week. The world leading mobile satellite operator will be showcasing several specialised products at the Defence Systems and Equipment International (DSEi 2009) jointly with Speakerbus, a UK based firm specialising in mission-critical voice systems.
At the event, which is taking place from the 8th to the 11th September, Thuraya will be showcasing its newly launched satellite only handheld Thuraya XT, which is the toughest satellite phone in the world. This innovative phone has been specifically designed to ensure the highest standards of reliability and robustness through its splash water resistant, dust and shock proof casing. The phone is ideal for the defence sector, which requires communications in a compact, resilient and tough device.

Thuraya will also be promoting its NettedComms solution in cooperation with Speakerbus. Thuraya NettedComms is a unique solution that integrates different communication technologies into a single closed user group, enabling users to communicate effectively. Designed for emergency situations, Thuraya NettedComms has attracted customers in several sectors who demand flexible communications.

Thuraya will also be marketing its recently launched ThurayaLease service which provides unlimited bandwidth (of multiples of 64 kbps) for major customers in need of high speed data anywhere in Thuraya’s 140-country coverage area.
“The defence sector is a major customer for Thuraya and DSEi provides us with the most suitable platform to exhibit our diverse world-class products and services. Our leading handheld devices, Netted Communications systems and leasing services make Thuraya an ideal satellite communications partner for the armed services” said Thuraya’s Chief Commercial Officer, Dr. Sven Rohte.
He added that Thuraya’s comprehensive area coverage and first-rate network is ideally suited to meet the demanding standards expected by the defence sector.
During DSEi Speakerbus will be showcasing their range of endpoints over Thuraya’s Satellite network. Highlights of the demo will include a sophisticated command and control IP endpoint called i turret and a new single channel ruggedized mobile endpoint capable of persistent VoIP communications, using a low bandwidth Satellite connection, called the i series iM101.

Mr. Andy Wodhams, Managing Director of Speakerbus said, “Speakerbus are delighted to be able demonstrate our communications products at DSEi with Thuraya.” He elaborated that, “the persistent connection and flexibility of our i series products makes them an ideal partner for the Thuraya NettedComms solution.”

DSEi is the world’s largest fully integrated defence and security exhibition, bringing together senior international trade and military experts.
