The TRAC tactical entry vehicle from Dolmen Corporation provides armoured versatility to deal with a wide range of assault operation tasks
The T.R.A.C. is a new concept in tactical entry vehicles, designed to give SWAT teams and Special Forces the edge when it comes to tactical breaching during high danger crisis situations, is being added to the fleet of the Homeland Security Office in Broward County, FL.

The vehicle is a highly manoeuvrable rubber tracked armoured vehicle, that can travel up to 12 mph across rough terrain, climb stairs and its small size allows it access to areas impossible for conventional vehicles.

By fitting the vehicle with a range of specially designed quick couple attachments, the vehicle is able to deploy in a variety of operational modes; these include an Assault Platform, Breaching Ram, Grapple and Vehicle Extraction.

The 'Assault Platform' consists of a fully curved ballistic shield with a sliding opening door and 3 ballistic glass windows and is able to protect up to 7 fully suited officers. It has an extendable boom that is able to lift up to 7600 lbs and can affect breaches up to the 1st floor of most buildings. This allows a safe investigation, approach and entry to the target area.

The quick-couple hydraulic 'Breaching Ram' can easily pop steel doors and even concrete walls from the safety of the armoured cab. The Ram is fitted with a Wireless Camera and Audio System that allows the breach to be monitored from inside the cab, on wrist monitors and back in the command centre.

The 'Grapple' allows the operator to remove obstacles, such as burglar bars and barricades, bollards and trees.

The 'Vehicle Extraction' allows the quick and easy removal of vehicle obstacles, in perfect safety.

Detective Brian Plancarte of the Homeland Security Office, Broward County, FL. USA said: 'The TRAC is the one piece of equipment that will fill the void at the crisis point - where we need protection the most, it's mobility will allow for rapid deployment to a crisis point, when speed is of the essence.' Plancarte went on to say that 'the TRAC's versatility is invaluable upon arrival at the crisis area. We invariably encounter different scenarios at a crisis area. Be it obstacles such as vehicles, that make it difficult to gain access or the fact that the perpetrators are holed up in the second floor, the TRAC's design will make our job so much easier and safer, due to the 1/2in ballistic plating. The video feedback system in the breaching ram will allow us to strategically plan our course of action. The Assault Platform / Protective Shield will be employed when we need to get up close and personal to the crisis point. And because of its 1/2in plating, our guys will be protected.' Detective Plancarte alluded to the fact that the TRAC will be capable of being deployed in most types of terrain and weather conditions, due to its heavy duty track system. 'The TRAC's versatile capability will definitely swing the odds in our favour and the company's mantra of 'Saving and Safeguarding Life' definitely holds true.'
