- aviation industry comment
Commenting on the invasion of Aberdeen airport by protestors Matthew Knowles, spokesman for the Society of British Aerospace Companies, said 'These protests seek to inconvenience the travelling public going about their lawful business and misinform the wider public at the same time. The average aircraft operating in the UK is as fuel-efficient as a hybrid car and set to get even cleaner. If we grounded every flight in the UK it would cut global CO2 emissions by 0.1% but destroy an industry that employs over half a million people, generates 15 billion per year for the faltering UK economy and has a Sustainable Aviation CO2 roadmap in place to cut emissions to below 2000 levels despite a predicted threefold rise in demand to 2050 through technological innovation.'
