Samantha Cameron Attends Musical Oliver for Tickets For Troops
Samantha Cameron has become a Patron of the charity Tickets For Troops and performed her first official engagement last night (Monday) at a London performance of the hit musical Oliver!

The wife of the Tory leader, David Cameron, met troops and their families who attended the performance along with members of the cast at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London.

Tickets For Troops was set up last year to provide members of the Armed Forces with free tickets for major sporting events including football, horse racing, rugby, darts and cricket matches as well as theatre performances, music concerts and cultural attractions.

Samantha Cameron said: “Tickets For Troops has been a massive success in terms of recognising the work and courage of our troops but it has also rewarded their families, whose support and love is crucial to those on the frontline. I am delighted and privileged to support such an excellent cause.”

Tickets For Troops Chairman, Lord Marland, said: “Samantha will be an excellent ambassador for Tickets For Troops. I know this is a cause which is very close to her heart and she will make a significant difference to our success. We are honoured to have her support.”

Nearly 50,000 soldiers, sailors and airman and veterans since the conflict in Iraq in 2001 have registered with and over 100,000 tickets have been donated for various events, including over 4,000 tickets to West End performances.

The theatre impresario Cameron Mackintosh is the producer of Oliver! and his Managing Director, Nick Allott, sits on the Advisory Board of Tickets For Troops.

Other Patrons include Joanna Lumley, Dame Kelly Holmes, Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen, Sir Ian Botham, Freddie Flintoff, Lance Corporal Johnson Beharry VC, General Sir Michael Jackson, Gary Lineker and Jeremy Clarkson.
