Parachute systems on display at SOFIC event

Airborne Systems will display the new RA-1, Advanced Ram-Air Parachute System at SOFIC 2014 from May 20 – 22 at the Tampa Convention Center.

Selected by the US army as its new Military Free Fall Advanced Ram-Air Parachute System to replace the MC-4, the RA-1 is the world’s most advanced ram-air parachute with a reflexed airfoil section to provide a true 4:1 glide ratio which allows jumpers to fly farther, land safely and carry more.

This system has received type classification by the US DoD and utilizes the Intruder canopy. The Department of Defense will begin fielding the RA-1 parachute system to the army, air force and navy this year.

Other items on display to complement the RA-1 include:

* Special Operations Long Range Oxygen Supply 3,000 psig (SOLR 3000) - Latest parachutist oxygen system designed by Airborne Systems to offer over 60% more oxygen capacity than the PHAOS.

* Parachutist High Altitude Thermal Suit (PHATS) - Complete thermal management suit that is lightweight, breathable, windproof and water repellant to protect against extreme cold temperatures during HAHO jumps.

* MicroFly - Guided Precision Aerial Delivery System that only requires the impact coordinates and rigged weight to provide precision cargo delivery from high altitude. The MicroFly can be used to accompany HALO/HAHO teams during insertion and can be used to supply elements on the ground.
