Lockheed Martin Simulation, Training And Support
: 16 February, 2010  (Company News)
Members of the Simulation Training and Support division as well as Missiles and Fire Control from Lockheed Martin will be providing future Scientists and Engineers with insight into their chosen careers as part of their support for National Engineers Week in Florida
Engineers and scientists at Lockheed Martinís Central Florida businesses will reach out to more than 2,000 local students during National Engineers Week from February 15th to the 19th. Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control and Simulation Training & Support employees will reach across all grade levels to excite the next generation of engineers and scientists about pursuing technical careers and to illustrate how engineering impacts everyday life.

'Lockheed Martin is encouraging today's students to become tomorrow's engineers, scientists, and technology inventors by supporting programs such as National Engineers Week,' said Dale Bennett, President of Lockheed Martin's Simulation, Training & Support business. 'Through these initiatives, we can connect the dots between their class work and the technology advances that improve our world, save lives and open doors for further exploration.'

Students will see engineering in action during tours covering technologies such as robotics simulators and virtual training environments. Lockheed Martin employees will also visit area elementary, middle and high schools during the week to demonstrate how interests in math and science can lead to fulfilling engineering careers, through projects covering catapults and the basics of flight.

Lockheed Martin continues to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in the region year-round through activities such as Engineers in the Classroom initiative, the Summer Science Series at the South Orlando YMCA Lockheed Martin Technology Centre and sponsorship of FIRST Robotics competition teams.

Founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers, National Engineers Week is dedicated to increasing public awareness and appreciation of engineers and to encouraging pre-college interest in science, technology and engineering. National Engineers Week is annually celebrated by thousands of engineers, engineering students, teachers and leaders in government and business.
