MRO Company Assets Acquired by Pemco

Pemco : 06 May, 2010  (Company News)
Pemco seeks to extend its reach into the MRO business for regional aircraft with the acquisition of ExelTech Canada
Pemco World Air Services has announced the purchase of substantially all of the tooling, equipment, and inventory of ExelTech Canada, one of the largest North American providers of MRO services to the regional airline industry. ExelTech operated hangars in Montreal and Quebec City where it offered comprehensive repair services to operators of Embraer E-Jets and 135/145s, Bombardier CRJ, Q-series, Dash 8, ATR, and Saab regional aircraft. ExelTech commenced reorganization procedures in early February and discontinued normal operations shortly thereafter, largely due to US-Canadian currency fluctuation on its predominantly US customer business.

Pemco intends to utilize the assets and know-how of ExelTech to expand its US regional aircraft MRO services beyond its current CRJ700 activities. “This is an excellent opportunity for Pemco to broaden our service array and assist a group of carriers whom we have not been equipped to serve in the past” said Pemco CEO Wake Smith. “We look forward to utilizing the assets and know-how of this respected MRO to provide ExelTech’s former customers and other North American regional carriers with a desirable US option” added Kevin Casey, Pemco’s President.

Pemco is considering restarting regional operations in Canada, but is finalizing US site selection. “We expect to be serving regional aircraft operators in our new US facility by early fall,” noted Pemco Chief Operating Officer Pat Stewart.

By Autumn 2010, Pemco will also have expanded into its second large hangar at the Tampa International Airport. The two Tampa hangars and backshops will exceed 320,000 sq ft and accommodate 10-12 narrow or up to 6 wide body lines. In addition to being a convenient on-line location for a majority of North American carriers, advantages of Pemco’s Tampa facility include its large pool of highly skilled aircraft technicians, competitive rates, and proven technical operations performance.

Pemco specialises in all levels of Airframe heavy maintenance checks, as well as interior, avionics, structural and cargo modifications. A leading aircraft MRO services provider for a wide variety of aircraft types, Pemco has maintenance bases in Dothan, Alabama and Tampa, Florida as well as partner operations in Southeast Asia. Pemco is also the world’s leading narrow body aircraft cargo conversion provider with over 300 cargo conversions. Its new 757 Combi and Freighter programs represent its 26th different cargo platform brought to market over the past 4 decades.
