Maritime Design Optimisation Software on show at SMM Event

QinetiQ : 06 September, 2012  (New Product)
QinetiQ is attending the SMM Exhibition in Hamburg next month with software for reducing fuel consumption in shipping fleets at the ship design stage

QinetiQ Maritime will be taking a primary Stand (Hall B2, stand EG.104) within the main hall of the SMM Exhibition, a European maritime exhibition being held in Hamburg Messe and Congress Centre between 4-7 September, 2012.
QinetiQ will be using the Exhibition as the first public showcase of its new Ship Design and Optimisation services, including a live demonstration on the stand of the latest version of QinetiQ’s Paramarine Ship Design and Optimisation software.
With increasing global fuel prices, the need to reduce costs of commercial fleets has focused operators’ attention on investing in technologies that can significantly reduce energy consumption. QinetiQ’s ‘people who know how’ on the Stand will be able to advise on the depth of its experience and expertise in the defence field to assist commercial operators. Opportunities also exist to support fleet operators in meeting changes in environmental legislation and QinetiQ capability can be key in meeting those challenges.
Paramarine is based on over 20 years’ experience in marine design. Thousands of concept vessels have been modelled and their stability analysed using Paramarine. Paramarine is used by many of the world’s leading shipbuilders and ship designers, as well as some of the world’s leading universities including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and University College London. The latest version of Paramarine has been further extended with enhancements to the software’s functionality on its reporting, concurrent design and documentation capabilities.
Jason Becker, leading the QinetiQ Maritime Team to Hamburg said, “QinetiQ offers some unique solutions for the commercial operator and designer. We have extensive  experience in the maritime defence field and have world class test, evaluation, trials and analysis capability through the maritime platform lifecycle. Combined with evaluating safety & performance of platforms; systems, people and equipment through validated tools & techniques, we can provide independent evidence and in-depth expertise to support crucial bottom line decision making.
