Lockheed Martin - Canadian Halifax Frigate Advanced Coammand and Control System

Lockheed Martin : 17 January, 2008  (Application Story)
A Lockheed Martin led industry team has unveiled the Canadian Advanced Command and Control System (CanACCS-9LV) and demonstrated the team's readiness to lead the combat systems integration element of the Canadian Navy's Halifax Class Modernization Program, which will upgrade the nation's 12 multi-mission frigates.
The proposed Saab-Lockheed Martin CanACCS-9LV system will provide the Canadian Navy's Halifax fleet with advanced capabilities, including proven Enhanced Sea Sparrow Missile anti-ship missile defense capabilities. The two companies have worked together for more than two years to ensure the successful integration of Saab's 9LV system with proven and deployed Canadian Navy command and control systems.

Today's demonstration before an audience of Canadian and international navy personnel, as well as other government representatives, took place at Lockheed Martin's Montreal-based Naval Integration Lab. Joined by team partners IBM Canada, xwave, L-3 Electronic Systems and CAE Professional Services, Lockheed Martin and Saab's demonstration included a presentation of the CanACCS-9LV system and provided an opportunity for participants to witness a range of scenarios and operational capabilities.

'The success and speed of our integration with proven Canadian Navy components validates the openness of our architecture and the strength of the Lockheed Martin - Saab Team,' said Svante Larsson, vice president, Naval Systems, Saab Systems.

'Today we've gone beyond demonstrating technology and software,' said Tom Digan, President of Lockheed Martin Canada. 'To meet the demanding schedule of the Halifax Class Modernization Program, it is essential that the winning team be able to assure the Navy that they can provide a proven, low-risk solution that will deliver capabilities required by Canada's sailors, on time. We have been the integrators of this ship class since its inception and we've demonstrated today that we are ready and capable to lead the fleet into the future.'

Lockheed Martin Canada's facility in Montreal is the Combat Systems Integration Centre of Excellence for the Canadian Navy. The facility was established as part of the company's commitment as original equipment manufacturer of the current combat system onboard the Halifax class, and has served for the past two decades as the centre for software development, integration and in-service support. The facility's capabilities allow the Navy and Lockheed Martin to address critical areas of risk before shipboard integration.

In addition to the pursuit of the Halifax Class Modernization Combat System Integration contract, Lockheed Martin's solution and technology will be marketed world-wide for naval command and control systems.

'Lockheed Martin's investment will provide the Canadian Navy with the most advanced technology in the world today and create excellent export opportunities for Canadian industry,' said Digan. System development and maintenance will be performed at Lockheed Martin facilities in Montreal and Halifax.
