Sill Lighting UK : 27 August, 2010  (Application Story)
Sill Lighting has supplied the luminaires used for the transformation of the forecourt canopy at Heathrow’s busy terminal four
Heathrow Terminal 4 Lighting Improvements From Sill Lighting
The external canopy of Heathrow Terminal 4 Departures has been transformed by Pinniger Lighting Consultants using high quality luminaires from Sill Lighting.

Lighting requirements for the project demanded aesthetically pleasing luminaires to sit within the architectural detailing of the forecourt whilst providing a cost effective, efficient lighting solution which complies with all required BAA lighting standards.

A prime requirement was to make the luminaires as discrete as possible within the steel and PTFE cushion canopy. The forecourt is lit by 26 Sill 021 parabolic projectors for 150w HCI-T/WDL lamps complete with rotatable ellipsoid lenses positioned at the leading edge of the canopy with the remote extruded aluminium control gear boxes concealed back within the façade.

The canopy itself is lit by low maintenance and efficient 041 Sill LED spotlights each with 36 blue Osram GD+ LEDS. The LED fittings are fitted with honeycomb louvres and anti-glare cowls and are wired for full remote dimming with DMX control. Sill provided not just the luminaires but also the ‘black box’ controls and interconnect cabling.

On specifying the Sill luminaires, Chris Sercombe, Lighting Designer at Pinniger Lighting Consultants said, “ We have worked alongside Sill on many different projects ranging from commercial builds to high end residential projects. We have been more than happy on all projects that Sill have been specified for, not only in terms of product performance and specification but also for their completed project support and commissioning.”

The lighting design helps create a consistent, quality environment by giving architectural definition through the use of high quality and energy efficient lighting. The development uses aesthetic and ambient lighting combined with sustainable low maintenance, high performance fittings, lamps and control equipment.

Sill Lighting’s luminaires have also previously played a major role in the lighting schemes at Heathrow’s Terminal 5 main building and bus station.
