Rockwell Collins
: 03 May, 2010  (Company News)
Delivering its commitment to environmental programs, Rockwell Collins has awarded 49 Green Community Grants ranging between 250 and 2500 dollars each
With its 'Green Buildings' serving as the backdrop, Rockwell Collins has announced the recipients of 49 Green Communities grants totalling $85,000.

'The Green Communities program has not only enhanced the environment, but it has given our employees an opportunity to get personally involved in projects that help improve the quality of life in the towns and cities where they live,' said Rockwell Collins Community Relations Manager Cindy Dietz. 'Our company has a rich legacy of employees being involved in their communities and this program is another example of that commitment.'

The company made the announcement at a special ceremony in front of two of its 'Leadership in Energy and Environment Design' (LEED) buildings. Dietz pointed out that Rockwell Collins has been recognized by both the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its efforts to improve the environment.

In 2008, USGBC recognized a newly constructed Rockwell Collins building in Cedar Rapids with its LEED Gold Certification with a second building built to the same specifications receiving Silver Certification in 2009.

Rockwell Collins selected the Green Communities projects based on criteria including:

Tangible environmental benefits of the project
Sustainability of the project benefits
Participation in the project by Rockwell Collins employees and/or retirees
Completion of the project within the calendar year of the grant award

Since 2004, the company has awarded 265 grants through the program. Grant awards range from $250 to $2,500. Only projects conducted or sponsored by qualified non-profit organizations or public/government entities are eligible.
