General Dynamics Awarded $6 Million Contract for ordnance Disposal Systems

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The NAVSEA Indian Head Division, Indian Head, Md., has awarded General Dynamics ordnance and Tactical Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), a $6.1 million contract for production of Disposable Fire Sets (DFS) for use by Joint Services explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) personnel in combat operations.

General Dynamics ordnance and Tactical Systems will produce 9,000 disposable wireless initiators and 400 encrypted transmitters for safe, secure initiation of explosives and explosively-driven EOD tools. The DFS provides an additional tool to support U.S. Armed Forces in defeating improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and clearing unexploded ordnance.

This contract is funded by the Joint IED Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) and administered by the U.S. Navy EOD Technology Division, which is responsible for development and acquisition of EOD equipment for Joint Services operations. General Dynamics ordnance and Tactical Systems has successfully completed first-article testing, with initial fielding scheduled to begin in early 2007.

General Dynamics ordnance and Tactical Systems is a world leader in the manufacture of large, medium- and small-caliber direct and indirect-fire munitions, mortar weapons and systems, artillery projectiles, bomb bodies and BALL POWDER(R) Propellant. The company also manufactures precision metal components; provides explosive load, assemble and pack services for a variety of munitions, tactical missile and Rocket programs; and designs and produces shaped charge Warheads and control actuator systems.

General Dynamics, headquartered in Falls Church, Va., employs approximately 81,100 people worldwide and expects 2006 revenues of approximately $24 billion. The company is a market leader in mission-critical information systems and technologies; land and expeditionary combat systems, armaments and munitions; shipbuilding and marine systems; and business aviation.
