: 07 April, 2010  (Company News)
The MoD and the Football Association have joined forces to provide 400 tickets for the semi-final matches of the FA Cup at Wembley Stadium
The Football Association has joined up with the Ministry of Defence this week to provide four hundred tickets for the armed forces to watch this weekend's FA Cup semi-final matches between Aston Villa and Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth at Wembley Stadium.

The Aston Villa v Chelsea match takes place at 5pm next Saturday, April 10th with Tottenham Hotspur facing Portsmouth on Sunday, April 11th with a 4pm kick-off and a hundred tickets will be provided for troops to support each of the four teams over the weekend.

The FA Chairman, Lord Triesman, said: 'The FA is absolutely delighted to welcome so many of our troops to Wembley on FA Cup semi final weekend. These men and women are real heroes for our country and an inspiration to us all, it is an honour to be able to give something back to them. We hope our special guests have a fantastic weekend at Wembley and see some great football.'

The initiative sees The FA again teaming up with Tickets for Troops, an independent charity dedicated to offering free tickets to major cultural, sporting and musical events to the nation’s soldiers, sailors and airmen. Over one hundred troops made up of Army soldiers, RAF and Navy were recently in attendance at Wembley for the England v Egypt game in March.

Tickets For Troops Chairman Lord Marland said: “The FA has proved to be a fantastic supporter of Tickets For Troops and we know we are making a significant different to the lives of our Armed Forces by recognising them in this way.”

Many of the armed forces that have just returned from operations in Afghanistan and Iraq will be in attendance alongside those who will shortly be going a tour of operational duty.

Vice Admiral Wilkinson, Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff (Personnel) said: 'Generous gestures such as this remind members of the Armed Forces of the respect and admiration felt by their own communities for their tireless and professional work. This means a great deal to our servicemen and women.'
