FLIR Systems - PTZ-35 and SR-19 Cameras

FLIR Systems : 31 August, 2007  (New Product)
When an attractive and substantial residence is surrounded by areas of shrubs, bushes and trees its security is compromised. The vegetation provides perfect cover for a would-be intruder to hide, denying the security team the benefit of early detection. This was the situation faced by residents of a prestigious estate in rural Ireland who recognised an urgent need to ramp-up their security arrangements.
Enclosed by fencing, walls and indeed other properties, their private residence was nevertheless easily penetrable. The ability to ‘see' any potential threat in the surrounding undergrowth and the overall aesthetics of the security system led to the specification of a FLIR Systems solution.

Naturally the owners were concerned that the chosen system should not compromise the appearance of the property and as a result illumination of the shadow-land and even CCTV cameras with IR lamps were rejected. Red wall and other sensors were not considered viable as they are liable to false alarm and their activation cannot be visually verified.

The chosen solution comprises four FLIR Systems PTZ-35 MS dual-purpose cameras and five SR-19 thermal imaging camera. The PTZ-35 MS twins a highly sensitive long wave thermal imaging camera with a long range daylight/low light camera; both are integrated into a compact and sealed, pan and tilt enclosure.

The SR-19 is a thermal imager that offers exceptional awareness in both day and night applications irrespective of the prevailing light level and weather conditions. Unlike other night vision systems that require low amounts of light to generate an image the SR-19 needs no light at all.

Both models chosen for this Irish application see events that are missed by the naked eye and conventional CCTV cameras especially those in fog and in smoke. Objects and people can no longer hide in the shadows, trees, bushes - security staff can see them, monitor them and track them.

The combination of these nine FLIR Systems cameras enables the entire perimeter and the interior grounds of this residence to be covered. The static SR-19 provides round-the-clock perimeter monitoring and with integrated analytics, programmed to detect people, whether upright or prone, then an alarm would be triggered in the security room.

In the event of someone being detected an alarm is triggered that activates one or more of the four PTZ-35 MS cameras. This pan and tilt model then automatically slews to the problem area, feeding back images to the security team, enabling the intrusion to be verified and appropriate action taken. The low light TV mode on this model provides more visual information than a straight thermal camera and in good ambient light can facilitate subject recognition.

This application is one of the first to result from FLIR Systems appointment of Dublin-based Greenhills Rainbow Distribution as its Irish partner. The company is an amalgamation of Rainbow Alarm Equipment and Greenhill Security Products and is now one of the largest independent security specialists in Ireland.
