Demron Multi-Hazard Protection Material Demonstration

Radiation Shield Technology : 05 April, 2010  (New Product)
NATO ASI event to hear presentation on the use of Demron CBRN protective fabric in lightweight, durable personal protective equipment
Demron, the world’s first and only fabric that provides multi-hazard protection against all nuclear, biological, chemical, bomb and ballistic threats, infrared radiation and heat, will be discussed during a NATO Advanced Study Institute (ASI), announced Ronald DeMeo, MD, president of Radiation Shield Technologies (RST). Dr DeMeo’s presentation, titled “Nuclear Threats, Physiological Effects, and Countermeasures,” takes place from 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Friday, April 9, during the NATO ASI on Defense-Related Intelligent Textiles and Clothing for Ballistic, Nuclear, Biological, Chemical (NBC) Protection. The event takes place in the Grand Dalmatia 2 room at the Hotel Le Méridien Lav, Split, Grljevacka 2A, 21312, Podstrana, Croatia. The Demron Full-Body Suit and Demron Anti-Ballistic, Anti-Nuclear, Self-Cooling Vest will be displayed.

Advanced Study Institutes (ASI) are high-level teaching activities where carefully defined subjects are treated in-depth by lecturers of international standing, and new advances in a subject, not taught elsewhere, are reported in tutorial form. Dr DeMeo, the surgeon who invented Demron, frequently accepts invitations to lecture worldwide about RST’s patented Demron line of full-body suits, vests, blankets and medical X-ray vests and aprons. The technologies are used globally by members of the military, first responders, HAZMAT teams, police and fire-rescue personnel and health care professionals, among others. The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) recently selected it to help improve firefighter safety.

“Radiation Shield Technologies developed Demron because we recognized a need for lightweight, durable, flexible personal-protection gear that provides total multi-hazard protection and enables users to work comfortably with the peace of mind of knowing they’re well-protected,” Dr DeMeo said. “Demron eliminates the guesswork by enabling users to deploy one technology to combat all types of threats, including traditional ballistics and bombs, as well as IEDs, RDDs, REDs and the ever-increasing nuclear and radiological threats.”

Demron, which has 12 US and international patents, consists of an advanced radiopaque, nano-polymeric compound fused between layers of fabric. The Demron fabric has National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Class 2 Certification for the 1994-2007 Standard on Protective Ensembles for First Responders to CBRN Terrorism Incidents. The product line includes the Demron-W Class 2 Style Full-Body Suit, which is pending NFPA certification. Demron has been proven to block gamma rays, X-rays and nuclear emissions by the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, part of the National Nuclear Security Administration within the US Department of Energy, the Georgia Institute of Technology and the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Demron is used worldwide by NATO, NASA, the National Guard, US Navy, UAE and the governments of South Korea, China, Saudi Arabia and Australia, among others.
