DVD - Defence Equipment And Support (DE&S)
: 02 June, 2010  (New Product)
DVD 2010 to be held in Bedfordshire in the UK to unite defence industry suppliers and users in display of latest equipment and services offered
DVD 2010, Defence Equipment & Support’s (DE&S) stakeholder event for the land and supply chain communities in the defence sector, will take place on June 23 and 24, at Millbrook, Bedfordshire. The event offers a unique opportunity for the Armed Forces, accredited Defence industry and the acquisition community to come to together to learn about, discuss and experience the equipment and support that is critical to the success of the UK’s Armed Forces.

Forming a vital date in the defence community’s diary, the two-day format offers its visitors a hugely effective means of interacting in one place. It is for this reason that Brigadier Paul Jaques, Head of Expeditionary Logistic & Support Capability (Cap ELS), has continued to support the event ever since its inception eight years ago.

As part of the Joint Capabilities Board, Cap ELS has the objective of generating and implementing an affordable, realistic and coherent Equipment and Equipment Support Plan. As Head of Cap ELS, Brigadier Jaques is responsible for the programming and delivery of this capability across all three services, including tactical and strategic air transport, the bulk of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary and all ground based land logistic equipment and vehicles.

Explaining his support for the event, Brigadier Jaques said: “DVD offers my team and I the opportunity to meet, discuss and interact with our key suppliers in a focused manner not replicated by any other event. DVD 2010 forms a platform for us to better understand the latest innovations and thinking, helping us to shape our requirement and develop our operational capability now and for the future.

“Attracting over 300 companies from industry, DVD offers a very effective method for the MOD to undertake business. Prior to the two-day event I will schedule approximately 15 meetings with attending firms to discuss existing or new requirements. If I tried to arrange these around my other work commitments it would probably take me nearly six months to achieve. In fact, because the industry knows how much I value DVD and that I am available during those two days, I will actually attend a great deal more than the 15 formal meetings over that 48-hour period making it incredibly valuable.

“A key attraction of DVD for me is the ability to see and interact with the technology, firsthand, in an environment that allows greater understanding of the capabilities industry are offering. You cannot fully appreciate a product’s full potential on a site visit to a supplier’s manufacturing facilities and DVD offers companies the opportunity to demonstrate their equipment in a fitting and safe setting that tests vehicle performance, in particular, to the full; Millbrook is ideally suited to this.

“DVD also attracts a large number of servicemen of all ranks and as a result offers industry the unique opportunity to receive feedback from those that are actually using the equipment on operations. These informal discussions continue to be vital for industry and DE&S teams to continue the development of military capability.”
