Customised armoured composite crew compartments

Morgan Advanced Materials : 08 June, 2015  (Application Story)
Morgan has developed an armour system for the crew compartment of the Light Armoured Multipurpose Vehicle from Indian military vehicle supplier
Customised armoured composite crew compartments

Morgan Advanced Materials announces that survivability products offered by its Composites and Defence systems business are being used in customised armoured composite crew compartments, ideal for reconnaissance and tactical vehicles, as well as Special Forces vehicles.

Morgan’s crew protection expertise is based upon its composite and ceramic pod technology, which has been developed over the past 20 years. The pod creates a detachable, blast and ballistic-resistant crew compartment, which can be easily integrated into customer-produced chassis and can be modified to provide higher levels of protection if required.

Morgan recently drew on its extensive materials and engineering expertise to design and develop a custom composite crew compartment for Tata Motors’ Light Armoured Multipurpose Vehicle (LAMV) program for the Indian Ministry of Defence. The composite and ceramic pod provides a weight saving of more than 1000 kilogrammes, making it less than half the weight of a similarly protected steel structure.

According to Duncan Eldridge, President of Morgan Composites & Defense Systems, “Morgan is a designer of armoured systems for military vehicles with experience in both ceramics and composites, enabling it to deliver crew protection with optimum performance at the lowest possible weight. Our success with the Indian Ministry of Defence’s LAMV programme is the latest of example of how we can develop armour systems as part of a strategic relationship that opens up opportunities for both companies.”
