Corpora Helps US Army Save Lives in South America

Corpora Software : 14 June, 2007  (Company News)
Corpora helps US army save lives in South America
The US Army is using Corpora's iOra Application Acceleration technology to provide better information in the field for humanitarian operations and exercises in Guatemala, Honduras, Ecuador and Colombia

The US Army South has successfully deployed Corpora's iOra Application Acceleration software alongside its Microsoft SharePoint platform to provide improved in-the-field access to operational information and collaboration with their main command post at Fort Sam, Houston.

This powerful network acceleration solution has dramatically enhanced the army's ability to coordinate its humanitarian, theater security co-operation and anti terrorism operations in Southern and Central America.

The enormous data compression provided by the iOra software allows army personnel in the field to maintain an up to date SharePoint portal over satellite. The Army's SharePoint deployment relies heavily on iOra's acceleration technology to provide users with round-the-clock access to operational information wherever they are. Prior to deployment of this technology, their staff relied on email and email attachments to share and store information. Now they send each other links to pages they have created on SharePoint. With this solution their critical information is more safely stored, more up to date and more accessible to whoever needs it than it was when they relied on email.

An example of how this is enhancing the US Army south operations comes from their theater security co-operation exercises. The iOra technology allows them to provide up to date information to their staff working in remote areas of South America. It provides them with all the decision-making information that was available to them at Fort Sam Houston allowing the US Army South to promote regional stability.

By using iOra software, the army's personnel in the field can access their SharePoint portal via mobile command posts mounted in HMMWVs over low bandwidth satellite communications. iOra compresses the data being transmitted over satellite by up to 99%.

When the army is asked to respond to a contingency, the solution enables Fort Sam personal and field personnel to immediately create web pages on which all the relevant operational information for that event can be shared. This long distance collaboration on SharePoint would simply not be possible without iOra technology.

The SharePoint and iOra deployment has dramatically reduced the army's dependence on email and telephone. Personnel can now share information more effectively, and they have access in the field to over 500,000 documents that they did not previously have including large images like maps. They do not suffer the bandwidth problems that they frequently encountered when trying to send large images via email.

With iOra's compression large files can be easily and quickly accessed in the field. iOra's compression technology has made over 500,000 documents available to personnel in the field that they did not previously have access to.

Based on the success of this project there is an expectation that iOra will also be deployed to support further operations in South America, Central America and the Caribbean.
