Airborne cargo delivery systems for UAE air force

Airborne Systems : 12 February, 2013  (Application Story)
Cargo of up to 4.5 tonnes will be able to be delivered using delivery systems supplied to the UAE Air Force by Airborne Systems

Airborne Systems announces the impending delivery of Guided Precision Aerial Delivery Systems (GPADS) to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Air Force.

Together with a comprehensive training program, the delivery confirms the UAE Air Force as Airborne Systems’ largest GPADS customer in the Middle East.

“Airborne Systems’ GPADS will enable high altitude accurate resupply of UAE distributed operations with reduced risk to air crews,” said JC Berland, Executive VP of Technology & Strategy.

“Airborne Systems will supply the DragonFly, FireFly and one-time use FlyClops for use with C130J and C17 aircrafts. We are proud to supply the UAE Air Force with this incredible force resupply capability,” concluded Mr Berland.

The GPADS consists of high performance, lightweight ram-air canopies, also known as gliding parachutes, and rugged Airborne Guidance Units loaded with robust autonomous navigation software.

Combined with jTrax mission planning software, the system provides precise payload delivery to troops on the ground. With glide ratios close to 4:1, these systems have an incredible range.

Depending on weather conditions, the GPADS can be dispatched from the aircraft over 20km from the landing area.

The GPADS only requires the impact coordinates to provide precision cargo delivery from high altitude.

The three systems purchased by the UAE supports an operational payload range from 700 – 10,000 lb (317– 4,550 kg).

* DragonFly supports 5,000 – 10,000 lb (2,250 – 4,550 kg)
* FireFly supports 700 – 2,200 lb (317 – 1,000 kg)
* FlyClops supports 700 – 2,200 lb (317 – 1,000 kg)

HDT Global will also be at IDEX to showcase the HDT Storm, a highly mobile ultra-lightweight, air-deployable tactical vehicle that facilitates mission success in austere environments. HDT will be located at Booth #02-A31.
