Northrop Grumman Corporation's Airborne Laser Mine Detection System (ALMDS) has received approval for low-rate initial production (LRIP) Lot 2 from the U.S. Navy. The company will produce three ALMDS units for approximately $25 million under the contract. It is anticipated that the company will produce 25 units over the next five years when the program enters full rate production in 2010. There is also potential for international sales.

The new interceptor increases the system's range and lethality over the baseline PAC-3 Missile, which was selected as the primary missile for MEADS when the design and development program began in 2004.

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics, and the University of Missouri at Rolla have been awarded a three-year contract for applied research by the U.S. Navy Sea Systems Command Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division (NEODTD) at Indian Head, Maryland with funding from the Office of Naval Research (ONR). The agreement provides continued funding for counter-Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) applied research and proof of concept demonstrations. The first year of the contract is valued at $1.5 million. The remaining two years have a potential value of $6 million.

DRS Technologies - $6.3m Contract To Develop New IP Receiver

DRS Technologies, has announced that it has been awarded a $6.3 million contract to develop and demonstrate a new near-mid wavelength infrared active detection receiver system. The system will be based on the company's unique Mercury Cadmium Telluride (HgCdTe) electron avalanche photodiode (e-APD) focal plane array (FPA) technology. The receiver will be an ultra-sensitive infrared detection system designed for use with a laser illumination source for detecting land-based threats.
