General Dynamics $47 Million For Post-Shakedown Work on USS North Carolina

The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat two contract modifications totaling $46.5 million to perform work on USS North Carolina (SSN-777) during its post-shakedown availability (PSA). Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics.

The Ministry of Defence of Cyprus has placed an order for three AW39 medium twin engine helicopters. The Cyprus MoD’s AW139s will be used to perform search and rescue and utility-EMS duties, covering the Cyprus Flight Information Region (FIR). The Ministry of Defence of Cyprus is the first customer for the AW139 in the country and this order marks further success for the best selling medium twin helicopter in the SAR market.

QinetiQ has successfully completed a series of trials using its T4 Vectored-thrust Aircraft Advanced Control (VAAC) Harrier aircraft on HMS Illustrious. These proved QinetiQ’s innovative new Bedford Array visual landing aid system – which stabilises the aircraft’s approach path in the presence of deck motion – as the solution for Shipborne Rolling Vertical Landings (SRVL) on the Royal Navy’s future carriers, particularly in rough sea state conditions.
