AAR - Chinook component control

AAR has announced that it has been awarded a five-year contract by the U.S. Army for the repair and overhaul of a key control component on the CH-47 (Chinook) helicopter, valued at $25 million. The work will be performed by AAR Aircraft Component Services -- New York and is scheduled to begin in March 2008.

A new study initiated by NASA is underway for a 'singular' landing system that works for land and water landings and protects the Astronauts in contingency landing situations. ILC and Airborne have combined their engineering and analysis teams and their Orion Gen-2 airbag designs for the new study.

For the first time, all four Eurofighter Typhoon core Air Forces from Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom combined their skills for a mutual exercise at Morón Air Force Base, near Sevilla, upon invitation of the Spanish Air Force. Codenamed "Typhoon Meet’, the deployment commenced on Monday 10 March and officially ends on Friday 14 March.

AgustaWestland hasannounced that Test Vehicle 3, the third helicopter built for the VH-71 Presidential Helicopter Replacement Programme, made its initial flight Feb. 27 in Yeovil, England marking the fourth helicopter to enter flight test. TV-3 is due to arrive at the Presidential Helicopter Support Facility here on Mar. 17 and will then travel to Lockheed Martin Systems Integration in Owego, N.Y. for final assembly and mission systems integration. TV-3 will be the first vehicle tested that is outfitted with mission systems.

The RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aerial system (UAS), built by Northrop Grumman Corporation celebrated the 10th anniversary of its first flight on Feb. 28, 2008. On that date in 1998 the Global Hawk made history when it flew for one hour over Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., and climbed to an altitude of 32,000 feet.

The U.S. Navy has decided to integrate Northrop Grumman Corporation's MQ-8B Fire Scout Vertical Takeoff and Landing Tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (VTUAV) onto another air-capable ship before it reaches the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS). The Fire Scout is still slated to go aboard the LCS, and the Navy remains committed to transitioning the Fire Scout in that direction.
