Iridium has supplied OpenPort terminals to Zodiac Maritime Agencies for use on the company’s fleet of 156 ships based in the UK
Iridium Communications announces that Zodiac Maritime Agencies, an international ship management company based in the UK, has completed retrofitting its 156-ship fleet with Iridium OpenPort maritime satellite terminals.

AND Group, an Iridium service provider based in the UK, performed the Iridium OpenPort installations, integrating the satellite terminals with its IPSignature communications management software.

“Zodiac was one of the first shipping fleets to take advantage of Iridium OpenPort’s unmatched value proposition of global coverage, multiple phone circuits, 128 kbps data and low equipment and usage costs,” said Greg Ewert, Iridium executive vice president of global distribution channels. “Following successful sea trials, Zodiac made the decision to roll out the Iridium OpenPort fleetwide last year.”

“Iridium OpenPort is rapidly gaining momentum in the maritime marketplace as more ship operators like Zodiac discover its unique advantages and benefits,” Ewert added. “Since introducing the product in 2008, we have delivered and activated nearly 2,000 terminals.”

“In today’s economic climate, shipowners and managers are looking for ways to reduce operating costs,” said Ian Robinson, CEO, AND Group. “The upgrade to Iridium OpenPort has yielded significant savings in Zodiac’s monthly satellite communication costs. Coupled with our IPSignature software and customizable data pricing plans for Zodiac’s business, crew calling, Internet and e-mail, Iridium OpenPort provides a highly attractive solution for Zodiac’s fleet communication requirements.”
