American Air Force to use Wescam imaging turrets for use in Imaging, Surveillance and Reconnaissance on fixed wing aircraft
L-3 Communications has announced that its Wescam subsidiary has been awarded a $110 million indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract from the US Air Force. As part of this contract, L-3 will supply Wescam’s imaging turrets, including the electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) MX-15Di, accompanied with training courses and service programs.

This order is in addition to a $90 million ID/IQ contract that was awarded to Wescam in December 2008. Combined, these two orders enable the Air Force to purchase a total of $200 million of Wescam products.

“We are pleased the Air Force has chosen to enhance its mission portfolio with L-3’s leading EO/IR and designating solutions,” said John Dehne, president of L-3 Wescam. “This order underscores our significant presence on the Air Force’s fixed-wing aircraft ISR programs.”

Headquartered in New York City, L-3 Communications employs approximately 67,000 people worldwide and is a prime contractor in C3ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) systems, aircraft modernization and maintenance and government services. L-3 is also a leading provider of a broad range of electronic systems used on military and commercial platforms. The company reported 2009 sales of $15.6 billion.
