Personal locator beacon from Elisra is being introduced at the SAFE 2010 exhibition with GPS location information transmission for military personnel
Rugged Communication Systems With Embedded GPS
Elisra has announced it would introduce its SPLB-M Personal Locator Beacon at the SAFE 2010 exhibition, opening November 8 at San Diego’s Town & Country Convention Center.

The metal-encased, rugged SPLB-M is based on the already-fielded SPLB commercial version, which is currently competing for large non-combat SAR contracts in several countries.

According to Avi Peleg, Senior Director of Marketing & Sales at Elisra's Communications & Datalinks Division, “The advanced, ruggedized SPLB-M is offered as a successor to and replacement for the aging AN/PRC-90 that is still fielded by the USAF and many other Armed Forces. Meeting the multiple complex needs of today’s search and rescue operations with its exceptionally rich set of features, it is an ideal solution for SAR teams in even the most difficult environments.”

Incorporating two-way voice communication, this new handheld SAR radio operates at the 406 MHz frequency of the COSPAS-SARSAT satellite system - in addition to the international emergency beacon frequencies of 121.5 and 243 MHz.

Its impressive array of features, low weight and compact size make it unique among competing devices in the world market. An embedded GPS receiver allows for automatic geo-location positioning and reporting - with better than 33-feet accuracy. An internal G-switch automatically activates the device in beacon-mode upon bailout, while a lanyard-actuated magnetic switch delivers additional mechanical and manual activation options. The remarkably simple user interface enables single-handed selection and operation of all features, even while wearing gloves.
