Harris Corporation has announced that its SecNet 11(R) family of products has been certified for use by the U.S. Navy to provide information security for classified wireless networks in various military applications.
The Navy has approved deploying SecNet 11 as part of the classified Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) wireless solution at Pearl Harbor and Camp Smith, Hawaii. NMCI is one of the world's largest internal computer networks, with nearly 700,000 users dispersed around the world. Harris is currently providing information technology integration, infrastructure, and operations and maintenance services for NMCI through its IT Services business.

SecNet 11 is a family of products that provides portable solutions for establishing a Type-1 secure wireless communications infrastructure. The family of products includes wireless bridges, encryption cards and other technologies that provide military personnel with secure access to real-time command and control information. The SecNet 11 PCMCIA card facilitates the creation of a secure wireless network that meets Department of Defense stringent requirements for wireless transmission of both classified and unclassified information.

'The Navy's certification underscores our leading expertise in Type-1 information security for fixed and mobile IP communications,' said Richard Rzepkowski, vice president of Communication Security Products, Harris RF Communications. 'Our products will allow thousands of Navy and Marine personnel to communicate wirelessly up to and including the secret level by providing a secure infrastructure that meets DoD and NSA requirements.'

Harris IT Services and Harris RF Communications are continuing to work closely with the Navy and with EDS, the prime contractor on NMCI, on the implementation and development of SecNet 11 and other secure solutions. Headquartered in northern Virginia, Harris IT Services is a leading provider of mission-critical IT and communications services and support to defense, intelligence, homeland security, civil, and commercial customers.

SecNet 11 is part of a larger category of products that includes SecNet 54(R), a pocket-sized, modular, standards-based Type-1 encryptor that provides the highest levels of data protection. The SecNet 54 family includes both wired and wireless solutions and is currently under evaluation by the Navy for mobile IP communications. Weighing less than a pound, SecNet 54 provides HAIPE-based encryption up to and including Top Secret.
