DVD - Defence Equipment And Support (DE&S)
: 03 June, 2010  (New Product)
The Interim New Clothing Solution company will be demonstrating its innovative approach to military clothing supplies at the DVD 2010 event taking place in June in the UK
The military’s new online clothing catalogue, known as The Interim New Clothing Solution (iNCS), will be on display at DVD 2010. DVD, the Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) stakeholder event for the land and supply chain communities in the defence sector, will take place on June 23 and 24 at Millbrook, Bedfordshire. A pivotal date in the defence diary, the event is centred on DE&S project teams that deliver vital equipment to the frontline. Members of the defence acquisition and military personnel communities, as well as industry organisations, gather at the event for two days of informal discussion and briefings.

The Defence Clothing (DC) Team is responsible for the procurement, stock management and distribution of the UK’s armed forces’ clothing inventory. Following the success of its 2009 attendance, the team will be returning to DVD to use the event as a platform to display its latest military clothing solutions to the defence community.

Visitors to DVD will be able to see, firsthand, iNCS which is accessed online and provides a clear display of entitlements, the recording of an individual’s sizing, and an expanded catalogue of items. iNCS allows service personnel to order their uniforms from a comprehensive online catalogue and have it delivered to an authorised address within four days of placing an order, making it easier for them to obtain their clothing requirements. Launched by the DC Team in March 2008 as a pilot scheme, the system is being upgraded with the capacity to serve up to 50,000 users.

Colonel Stephen James, Defence Clothing Team Leader, explained: “We are making the most of technology to improve clothing supply to all ranks. For two years, the pilot project has provided an online ordering system for 4,000 users and following high satisfaction ratings, and many lessons learned, we are expanding the system. Depending on where soldiers are based, stores are sometimes difficult to access, and stock can be limited. Getting the kit they need, when they need it, enables personnel to do their job and boosts morale. From Defence Clothing’s point of view, iNCS directly improves our support to serving personnel, wherever they are in the world.”

iNCS is part of the MOD's ongoing programme of work to provide the best possible equipment and support to the front line. The service works alongside the existing supply chain, giving personnel the flexibility to choose how they select and receive their clothing provision. From June 2010, iNCS will be rolled out to personnel who will benefit most, such as the Royal College of Defence Medicine, individuals posted in UK but at a distance from home stores, and those in isolated posts overseas.
