Balfour Beatty Communities is sponsoring the Swing 4 Scholarships golf tournament in aid of US military personnel and their families
Balfour Beatty Communities Foundation (Foundation), a non-profit organization committed to honouring military personnel and their families, will be holding its third annual charity golf tournament on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay in Half Moon Bay, California. All proceeds from the event, called “Swing 4 Scholarships,” will directly support the efforts of the Foundation, with a focus on the Foundation’s scholarship program.

“Last year’s charity golf tournament was met with great enthusiasm and commitment to a special cause, helping us to award 17 academic scholarships to students of military families across the country, and we are eager to repeat that success,” said Bruce Robinson, President of Balfour Beatty Communities Foundation. “Swing 4 Scholarships has established itself as a hallmark event for the Foundation, and we are so grateful for the continued generous support of our sponsors. On behalf of the Foundation, I would like to express sincere gratitude to all tournament participants who make it possible for us to honour our military members and their families for the invaluable contributions they make to our country.”

The tournament will feature a shotgun start with foursomes playing a scramble format, and prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, 15th, 25th and last place finishers. The Foundation also will set up a number of on-course games to be played throughout the day. The day of golf concludes with a $1 million hole-in-one shootout and a $5,000 putt contest, followed by a cocktail reception, dinner and awards ceremony.

All charity events sponsored by the Foundation support its commitment to honouring military personnel – active, disabled, and fallen. This support includes, among other things, establishing places for communal gathering and reflection, assisting returning service members requiring specially-adapted homes, and providing scholarships and grants to the children of military families. Swing 4 Scholarships will focus on the particular mission of promoting the pursuit of education and a commitment to community leadership through academic scholarships.
