: 21 July, 2009  (Company News)

Following a detailed and intensive tender process, joint organisers Civil Aviation Affairs (CAA) of the Kingdom of Bahrain and Farnborough International Ltd (FIL), have awarded the £17m contract for the inaugural biennial Bahrain International Airshow 2010 to Arena Group and Lea International.
Two leading industry names, The Arena Group and Lea International, have combined their expertise to create a new partnership that will realise the project in just six months. In an industry first, ArenaLea has been awarded the contract for the total construction of the buildings and interiors for the Bahrain International Airshow.

The contract covers the 2010, 2012 and 2014 events, with the first taking place on 21st to 23rd January 2010 at Sakhir Airbase, Kingdom of Bahrain.

Under Royal patronage, the Bahrain International Airshow (BIAS) is being organised through a partnership between Bahrain Civil Aviation Affairs (BCAA), Kingdom of Bahrain and Farnborough International Ltd (FIL), a UK based company and organisers of the world renowned Farnborough International Airshow.

Speaking about the new event, Captain AbdulRahman Al Gaoud, Undersecretary for BCAA and Executive Chairman of The Organising Committee commented:

“We are delighted to appoint ArenaLea as the contractor for constructing and fitting out our luxury chalets and related facilities for the Airshow, which we believe will set a new standard in aerospace events worldwide for many years to come. The Kingdom of Bahrain enjoys a wonderfully close relationship with the United Kingdom, so we are delighted to be partnering with Farnborough International Ltd to be developing this prestigious event. The show has been specifically designed with Aerospace industry requirements and views very much in mind, as we have listened to what the industry really wants and expects from an aerospace event. We very much look forward to welcoming visitors to the Airshow in Bahrain in 2010.”

With a proven track record in aerospace exhibitions, ArenaLea took the event brief and presented a detailed concept to showcase their vision of the permanent facilities. These will include the show entrance, VIP enclosure, business chalets, restaurants, a media centre and assorted public area buildings.

The exciting new design and quality provision within facilities throughout the show were amongst the awarding body’s main criteria.

Work will begin immediately on the manufacture of special high quality custom designed buildings that will provide the Kingdom of Bahrain a showcase event.

ArenaLea will establish a Bahrain office to complement their existing presence in the region and to enable them to take advantage of future business opportunities in Bahrain.

Jeremy Perkins, Commercial Director at Arena Group and Ian Lea, Managing Director of Lea International will be Project Directors for the BIAS contract and have a wealth of experience in the international aerospace exhibition sector. Jeremy said:

“The Lea International design won many accolades throughout the tender process and we look forward to delivering a world-class event.”

Commenting on the award Grahame Muir, Managing Director of Arena Structures said:

“We are very proud to have been entrusted with this prestigious event.

“This is our single biggest contract win and is a fantastic achievement for everyone involved with the ArenaLea Team.”

Ian Lea, Managing Director of Lea International added:

“This is the culmination of months of hard work for the whole team and I know that the final result will be the envy of the entire Aerospace community.”

Grahame Jones, Operations Director at Farnborough International Limited added:

“Farnborough International is honoured to be working with the CAA to develop the Bahrain International Airshow. We are delighted to welcome ArenaLea as a key part of our team, their combined proven operational excellence and the design led solution presented aligns with our goal of shaping a brand new show in the dynamic emerging market of the Middle East.”
