Chemring Group
: 26 July, 2010  (Company News)
Chemring and NADI have signed up to co-operate on ammunition supply relationship for the ASEAN region
David Price, Chief Executive, Chemring Group and Tan Sri Dato’ Ahmad Johan, Executive President, National Aerospace and Defence Industries Sdn Bhd (NADI), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Farnborough International Air Show. The MOU expands the existing relationship between the two companies in the ASEAN region and raises it to a new strategic level.

Under the MOU the NADI owned company, SME Ordnance, will be able to offer the full range of products and technical capabilities, such as military Pyrotechnics and demolition stores, which have become available within the Chemring Group through its own expansion over recent years. This expansion in capability will position SME ordnance as a strong regional centre to support the demands of the Malaysian Armed Forces and those of the adjacent countries in the ASEAN region.

The MOU builds on the successful 25 year relationship in Pyrotechnics manufacturing between Chemring Defence and SME ordnance Sdn Bhd, which established SME’s Pyrotechnics manufacturing capability at Batu Arang, Malaysia, and lead to it becoming a key supplier to military customers in the region.

“Chemring Group intends to develop its international markets outside the US and Europe through strategic partnerships and joint ventures. Signing this agreement with SME ordnance is an important component of our strategy and provides a long-term partnership with transfer of advanced technology to develop an important part of the ASEAN region”, said David Price, Chief Executive, Chemring Group

“Chemring Group has been our strategic partner for more than 25 years and we are confident that with the signing of the MOU it will certainly further promote our business collaboration. The MOU signifies Chemring’s readiness to allow SME ordnance to strengthen its market base in the ASEAN region. I am confident with this partnership spirit between both Chemring Group and SME Odnance we will be able to establish a strong platform to further strengthen our business relationship,' said Tan Sri Dato’ Ahmad Johan, Executive President, National Aerospace and Defence Industries Sdn Bhd.
