BRAC Construction to Begin at Detroit Arsenal

US Army (published 23/02/2009)

A construction contract for a Weapons Maintenance and Operations Center at the Detroit Arsenal in Warren, MI, was awarded on February 10, 2009, to Brix Corporation of Southfield, MI. The contract award was for $4.9 million.

This military construction project will result in the renovation and re-construction of the existing Weapons Maintenance and Operations (MOP) building at the Detroit Arsenal. This facility will accommodate the new Weapons MOP training mission being transferred from Rock Island, IL, and consolidate it with the present mission of the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC) in Warren for material fielding and training.

These missions will share the same building and provide a consolidated Soldier training facility for TACOM LCMC supported weapons. The renovated facility will include a two story construction for Solider training rooms and related functions, as well as a high bay shop area and other mission facilities.

This project is one of four military construction projects scheduled at the Detroit Arsenal as part of the Defense Base Closure and Realignment Act (BRAC) of 2005. Other BRAC construction projects scheduled to be awarded at the Detroit Arsenal include an admin building, parking structure and weapons system support & training facility.

A formal groundbreaking ceremony for these construction projects is scheduled for May 2009.
