The Boeing Company and Philippine Airlines (PAL) have announced that the airline has increased its fleet plans for Boeing 777-300ERs to a total of six airplanes with a new order for two of the popular and efficient twinjets. The order is an exercise of purchase rights disclosed in March when PAL placed an order for two 777-300ERs. |

The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) announced today that its annual convention and exhibition, AUVSI's Unmanned Systems North America 2007, will be the largest in the Association's 35 year history. With 230,000 gross square feet (over 70,000 square meters) of exhibit space and more than 275 international exhibitors, this show is the largest of its kind and the only event that brings together all unmanned disciplines including air, ground, and maritime, for the most extensive display of robotic and unmanned systems hardware in the world. |

The U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command on May 25 awarded General Dynamics Land Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics, a $12 million contract modification for Abrams tank system technical support (STS). STS funds engineering studies on Abrams tanks with the purpose of identifying improvements and conducting the change-out of obsolete parts, while keeping Abrams main battle tanks current to their base configurations. The STS program's objective is to maintain Abrams tanks at high operational readiness rates. |

General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies has been awarded a $30.5 million follow-on order for satellite communications terminals that will be used in the U.S. Marine Corps Support Wide Area Network (SWAN) program. The U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Lifecycle Management Command, Ft. Monmouth, N.J., is the contracting authority. The order is the first of four options on an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract that has a total potential value of $160 million if all options are exercised. |

BAE Systems, a premier global defense and aerospace company, has chosen Noldus Information Technology to provide key software solutions that will assist in the development of the next generation of ground combat and transport vehicles. BAE Systems has developed a simulator to study interactions between the driver, gunner, and commander in various conditions. The Observer XT is Noldus' flagship behavioral coding and analysis tool. Utilizing The Observer XT and a vehicle performance data recorder (UDP Reader) developed especially for BAE Systems by Noldus, BAE Systems will study the vehicle performance in sync with various communications. This measurement and analysis set-up configured for BAE Systems represents one of the first applications in crew performance analysis and after-action review in training simulators. BAE Systems is using these tools in a program that is developing the next generation of army vehicles. Other defense contractors in this program include General Dynamics Land Systems, Boeing, and SAIC. |

The Navy announced yesterday (May 29) that the ship will be named USNS Amelia Earhart, in honor of the first woman to fly solo, non-stop across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. |
