BMT Isis Safeguards UK Public Sector Supply Chain Sustainability

BMT Isis, part of the BMT group, is helping UK businesses supplying the public sector, in particular the Ministry of Defence (MoD), to become more sustainable through a new contract with Envirowise, the sustainable business experts.

Working with the MoD's Defence Food Services (DFS) Integrated Project Team (IPT) as part of the Sustainable Procurement Supply Chain Programme, BMT will run a series of eight workshops to engage suppliers, one of the main targets of the government's Sustainable Procurement Flexible Framework.

The DFS IPT sources and supplies all the food required to feed UK forces at home and abroad, with a £16 million purchasing budget.

The project will benefit organisations with little or no previous environmental management experience to ensure they remain as trusted suppliers to the MoD, as well as realise significant financial rewards from streamlined, eco-friendly processes.

Around 40 companies will receive fully funded impartial and confidential advice, support and training from the Bath-based independent consultancy.

The study will consist of an on-site visit to gather baseline information, three days of environmental management system training and one day of industry specific resource efficiency workshops.

The study will be launched at the prestigious ‘Combined Services Culinary Challenge' held on 30 October, at Sandown, Esher.

John Hutchison, Managing Director at BMT Isis, said 'This programme plays a pivotal role in putting the government's sustainable procurement policies into practice. Through our work with Envirowise, BMT Isis is at the forefront of ensuring UK companies retain and enhance their ability to supply goods and services to the MoD in an efficient, profitable and sustainable manner. We need to safeguard the future of the UK supply chain as well as address sustainability. This programme is an important step towards that aim.'

BMT Isis is also working with the Air Defence Air Traffic Systems (ADATS) IPT on a similar sustainable procurement supply chain project. ADATS IPT is aiming to become a sustainable procurement leader within the MoD and public sector.
