ATK's Battle-Proven Electronic warfare Technology Credited with Saving Numerous Air Crew and Aircraft From Missiles in Iraq and Afghanistan

Alliant Techsystems has received $36 million in follow-on production orders from the U.S. Navy for AAR-47 missile warning systems. This order is against a production contract awarded to ATK in August 2006, bringing the total value to $58 million. ATK will perform work under the contract at its facility in Clearwater, Florida. To date, the U. S. Navy, U.S. Marines, U. S. Air Force and United States foreign military sales customers have collectively ordered over 3,000 AAR-47 systems.

The AAR-47 missile warning system is an Electronic warfare system designed to protect helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft against surface-to-air missile threats. After detecting an inbound enemy missile, the system automatically alerts aircrews and deploys countermeasures to defeat the threat. The AAR-47 plays a critical role in crew and aircraft survivability. The AAR-47 system has been credited with saving numerous lives in the ongoing war on terrorism while providing platform protection from the threat of missile attack. The AAR-47 is installed in aircraft flown by the U.S. and its allies in over 16

countries worldwide.

'ATK's Electronic warfare systems are tested regularly in combat and have proven to be highly effective and reliable. This follow-on production award emphasizes the important role ATK plays in support of critical military missions,' said Jack Cronin, president of ATK's Mission Systems Group, headquartered in Baltimore, Md.
