The U.S. Navy's Naval Sea Systems Command has awarded General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems a two-year, $66.2 million contract extension to continue engineering services work on the Submarine Tactical Control System (TCS) portion of the submarine Combat System Modernization program. General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, the lead developer of the TCS, is a business unit of General Dynamics.
General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems will develop commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software and hardware upgrades to integrate improved tactical and weapons control capabilities for multiple submarine classes. TCS leads the implementation of the Navy's open architecture and open business model approach on submarines with a design that emphasizes shared standards that provide greater interoperability, portability, scalability and supplier independence.'We are pleased that the Navy wants us to continue our TCS development role, so that we can deliver improved tactical control systems with new functionality at lower cost,' said Michael Tweed-Kent, vice president and general manager of integrated combat systems for General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems. 'This program is one of several that demonstrates our leadership role in implementing an open business model that encourages third-party participation to develop and deliver affordable combat system enhancements across a number of naval platforms.' Work under this contract modification will be performed in Fairfax, Va., and is expected to be completed by December 2009. This award extends a contract originally awarded in December 2002; including this modification, the cumulative value of the contract is $129.5 million.
