Science Applications International Corporation has announced that it received an order from the U.S. Army for 30 Relocatable VACIS inspection systems. The systems will help Army personnel search vehicles and cargo for weapons, explosives and other threats.
SAIC's VACIS system produces digital images of the contents of vehicles and containers for online analysis. Operators and drivers can be sheltered during the scanning process, which is critical in hostile environments. The system can be relocated in one day.'We are very pleased that the Army has once again chosen SAIC's VACIS inspection systems to help protect our troops overseas, secure vital assets and aid in the fight against terrorism,' said Alex Preston, SAIC senior vice president and general manager of the Security and Transportation Technology Business Unit. SAIC will manufacture the systems in San Diego and deliver them throughout 2008 and 2009. Last year, SAIC also provided the Army with 23 Military Mobile VACIS systems under a contract awarded in 2006.
