APH Completes Croatian Shipbuilding Contract

Air Power & Hydraulics (published 05/03/2007)

APH has completed a contract for Viktor Lenac, a leading Croatian shipyard, to provide 63S x 180 degree Rotary Actuators for installation on the Danish cable laying vessel.

Designed and built to operate in a hostile open deck marine environment, the heavy duty rack and pinion actuators will open and close the vessel's hatch covers. The actuators incorporate large diameter bronze bearings for high load capacity and a long maintenance free life-cycle and the floating piston design eliminates side load on seals and tubes allowing trouble free operation. In addition the actuators feature fully sealed adjustable end stops for fine tuning of rotation angle.

APH Managing Director, Ian Paterson, commented, 'To give an idea of the actuators' power, each unit could comfortably lift and rotate, at a radius of 3 metres, a large family car containing four adults each weighing 14 stones - with seatbelts on, of course!'

APH supplies nine other sizes in the range, all with features such as subsea duty, male drive shaft, end of stroke cushioning, special fluids and made-to-measure mountings.
