ABSL Power Solutions Ltd (ABSL), a leading UK portable power developer and manufacturer, today announced that it has won an industry award for technology specifically designed and developed to support the fighting soldier serving on Operations. The Soldier Portable Charger (SPC) is a major step forward in reducing the burden of power on the User at a time when Operations are demanding a greater reliance on battery power.
ABSL has developed a lightweight charger that can “suck” any voltage found on the battlefield whether it be an abandoned car battery, a generator or even another soldier’s battery and enable the User to charge his own batteries. This will mean carrying less weight of batteries in the first place as he no longer needs to take batteries “just in case”. At a time when soldiers are carrying almost their own body weight into a battle any reduction in weight can immediately increase their operational capability. The Soldier Portable Charger was reviewed by a panel of distinguished judges that head up the major Soldier Modernisation Programmes around the world such as FIST, Normans, D2S2, ISSP and awarded ABSL Power Solutions with the Best Lightweight Technology Award. Peter Cooper the Sales & Marketing Director was delighted to receive the awarded and recently commented “It is wonderful that the work and design of many key people at ABSL has been recognised in this award and that we have technology that is seen as making a serious contribution to the capability of the dismounted soldier. I look forward to seeing this product included in the upcoming Soldier Modernisation programmes around the world.” The SPC is one of many products designed by ABSL that is specifically aimed at reducing the burden of power. These include high density batteries, ergonomic conformable batteries and products such as ruggedised fuel cells and the future hybrid battery/fuel cell developments currently being undertaken for the UK MoD. |
