In response to a UK MoD requirement Aish Technologies Limited has developed an Extra High Tension Earth Probe for use in safely discharging Cathode Ray Tubes.
Even when turned off a Cathode Ray Tube can hold a charge in excess of 15Kv, as such when servicing is required it is essential that a safe means of discharge is available. The Aish Technologies Limited Probe uses a Double Insulated PTFE construction and a Protective Impedance to allow safe discharge. The CE marked probe has been designed and tested to meet the requirements of BS 61010 (Safety Requirements for Electrical Equipment for Measurement) . The design process for the Probe focused on providing a solution that meets the environmental and usage requirements whilst allowing a repeatable manufacturing process. The use of PTFE for the main body and handle of the probe allowed for the complex turning required to support the internal components and cable routing without the need for additional assemblies. In addition to design proving tests and to meet the requirements of BS 61010 each probe is subjected to a 60Kv DC Voltage Breakdown test on completion of manufacture. The Probe is rated at 20Kv DC, 5K Joules with all user accessible parts manufactured from PTFE. Internally all components are held within a potting compound with the overall construction preventing user access to high voltages. As part of the environmental test program applied to the probe independent high voltage testing at Southampton University ensured that the probe remained safe at its rated 20Kv and continued to remain safe up to 115Kv. The Probe design allows for easy adaptation to suit manufacture for other voltage |
