$1.1 Million Spares Order for Tactair

Tactair Fluid Controls (published 02/05/2008)

Tactair Fluid Controls has announced a $1.1 million spares order from the Defense Supply Center in Richmond, Virginia. The order includes 98 leading edge flap actuators for the KC-135R Stratotanker and over 1,000 hydraulic accumulator overhaul kits. The accumulator overhaul kits will be used to perform maintenance on Tactair accumulators installed on a broad range of military aircraft.

The Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker is a four engine, military aircraft introduced in 1957. Re-engining of the aircraft with the CFM-56 engine resulted in the KC-135R designation and included new leading edge flap actuators based on Tactair’s proprietary design. Tactair was the original equipment manufacturer of the trunion mounted, leading edge flap locking actuator.

The main purpose of the KC-135R aircraft is to provide mid flight refueling services to military aircraft. Other uses include flying reconnaissance, pure transport, electronic reconnaissance and photo mapping. The U.S. Air Force retained Boeing to provide a continuing improvement program for the aircraft.
