Boeing has announced that the U.S. Air Force has exercised an option for a sixth Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) satellite and has authorized Boeing to begin construction. The Commonwealth of Australia is funding the procurement as part of a cooperative agreement between the U.S. and Australian governments. The satellite is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2012.

The U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command has awarded General Dynamics Land Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics, an $11.2 million contract modification for Abrams Tank System Technical Support (STS). The award will fund engineering studies on Abrams tanks to identify improvements and replace obsolete parts to maintain the tanks at high operational readiness rates. The work will be performed by existing General Dynamics Land Systems employees in Sterling Heights, Michigan. It is expected to be completed by December 31, 2011. |

The first SMART-S Mk2 surveillance radar, installed on the HDMS Absalon of the Royal Danish Navy, passed the Sea Acceptance Test (SAT) with flying colours. Overall conclusion: SMART-S Mk2 easily exceeded all requirements. In particular the requirement for low elevation tracking accuracy was typically exceeded by a factor 7. During the tests , SMART-S Mk2 was controlled through Absalon's third-party supplied CFlex Command and Control system. |

Harris Corporation has received a $104 million order from the U.S. Army for high-frequency (HF) radio systems. Under the agreement, Harris will provide the Army with Harris Falcon(R) II AN/PRC-150(C) HF radios and related accessories, as well as installation services and training. The contract is one of several recent orders by the Army of a broad range of Harris radio systems, highlighting the company's technological leadership in tactical communications. |

The French Ministry of Defense has chosen Vizada (the former France Telecom Mobile Satellite Communications) to provide its mobile satellite communications over the next three years (2008-2010). Vizada provides Inmarsat, Iridium and Thuraya services for use on many different sites worldwide, including dedicated interconnection solutions to meet the MoD's needs in terms of communications quality and security. |
