Civil, commercial & research unmanned aircraft with a mass of less than 150 kg will not be certified by EASA. In most European countries, the certification of such aircraft, or the authorization to operate them in national airspace, is the responsibility of the national civil aviation authority (CAA). However, the CAA in only a few countries have a clear policy or are addressing this situation. As a result, the market for this type of UAS has difficulty in developing. However, various studies indicate that this UAS segment offers substantial potential. Currently, there is no coordinated European effort to address rules & regulations for this category of UAS.
Consequently, we have decided to organize a special workshop on small unmanned aircraft systems (aircraft mass <150 kg). This workshop will take place on 13 June 2007 and will run in parallel with the conference sessions on this day. The workshop has as purpose to bring the relevant stakeholders together, take stock of the current situation, try to define what is required and map out a course on how best the UVS community should proceed to tackle this problem in a coordinated way & without duplication of effort.Participation in this workshop will be free for all persons having registered to attend Day 2 of the UAV 2007 conference. With 67 speakers and the workshop on small unmanned aircraft, UAV 2007 will definitely be the biggest UAV conference in Europe in 2007. |
