The Royal Air Force has declared its Typhoon jets multi-role capable today. The RAF Typhoons can now carry out precision Ground Attack as well as Air Defence tasks.

QinetiQ - 10-year, £24m contract for Harrier Through-Life Support

QinetiQ has just been awarded an MOD contract worth almost £24 million over the next 10-years by the Harrier Integrated Project Team (IPT) for through-life support on the Harrier Aircraft. The contract supports the IPT in its key functions of delivering long term Harrier availability and capability, through to the Out-of-Service Date (OSD) in 2018.

Boeing Awarded B-52 Airborne Electronic Attack Technical Maturation Contract

Boeing has been awarded a $14.9 million contract by the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory to develop and mature technologies required to enable airborne electronic attack from long distances, filling the stand-off electronic attack role. The contract includes systems engineering studies focusing on potential pod installation on the B-52H aircraft, as the designated demonstration airframe. This effort will advance the technology required for the planned Core Component Jammer (CCJ).

UK MoD announces public consultation on UAV airspace expansion

The increasing sophistication of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) used by UK Armed Forces means that the current airspace above Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire is now insufficient to accommodate the full training requirement. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is therefore undertaking public consultation on proposals to extend the existing segregated airspace to include an additional area to the south of the Salisbury Plain Training Area.

Boeing's 1st C-130 AMP Aircraft Completes 100th Flight

Boeing has said that the first C-130 Avionics Modernization Program (AMP) aircraft, H2, has completed its 100th flight. The aircraft, which is undergoing flight testing at Edwards Air Force Base (AFB), Calif., has flown several cross-country sorties and is ahead of development schedule. The milestone also marks the halfway point in the aircraft's flight-test program.
