Aptima has announced that it has received a contract from L-3 Communications’ Global Security & Engineering Solutions division (L-3 GS&ES) headquartered in Chantilly, VA. Aptima is a member of L-3’s indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for Academic, Training and Exercise Contract Support (ATECS) to the 505th Command and Control Wing.
The 505th is a subordinate unit to the United States Air Force Warfare Center at Nellis Air Force Base, NV. As the self-described “gateway to operational excellence,” the 505th’s mission is to improve and standardize tactics, training, testing, exercises, and experimentation for command of air and space power. It is responsible for developing the Air and Space Operations Center (AOC) and developing and integrating joint live-virtual-constructive (LVC) training capabilities within the Air Force Distributed Mission Operations Center (DMOC). Aptima was selected to join the L-3 GS&ES team based on its innovative, competency-based approaches to defining training requirements, developing formal classroom and simulation-based training, and specifying system-based and observer-based measures of training effectiveness. Aptima will furnish eight qualified personnel to conduct command and control instruction, academic training, exercise planning and execution, and experimentation support to the 505th Command and Control Wing at Hurlburt Field in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. As a direct result of this contract, Aptima established a new Consulting and Engineering Services (CES) Division for the purpose of supporting full-time, on-site work at customer facilities. Michael Paley, Senior Vice President of Business Development, will lead the division and said, “For the past several years our major government customers have encouraged us to provide on-site services. We believe that the 505th contract offers a great opportunity to jump start this important new business area for the company.”
