Meridian Gyrocompasses to Turkish Coast Guard

Teledyne TSS (International) Ltd. (published 01/07/2009)

Teledyne TSS, Watford, UK has completed the delivery of a further 8 of its latest high performance SG Brown Meridian gyrocompasses to the Turkish Coast Guard, making a total of 22 now supplied.

The Meridian Standard Gyrocompasses are for the Integrated Navigation System Project of
the Turkish Coastguard, and are being installed aboard the Turkish Coast Guards older
Patrol boats. The delivery includes the Gyro unit and full fit of modern repeater units
for each of the 22 vessels. TSS agent Ratelmak will be commissioning the systems on board each vessel, and offering full technical and operational training to all boat crew and
technicians.

The Meridian gyro is fully approved to IMO standards, which make it suitable for use
aboard ships of any size. The Meridian employs a dynamically tuned gyrosphere, which
benefits the user by significantly reducing its maintenance requirements and costs. The
gyrosphere gives the compass the very fast settle time of 45 minutes and the ability to
follow rates of turn as rapid as 200 deg per second. The Meridian features a 360 deg
compass card display.

The Meridian gyro-compass measures just 344 mm x 267 mm x 440 mm and although suitable for any type of commercial vessel, it is considered particularly appropriate for use
within the integrated bridge of high speed craft or as a stand alone unit. It offers a
large array of digital or analogue outputs plus a number of digital set-up and test modes
that are activated via the control unit.
