atg airports (published 02/05/2009)

The importance of building on existing working relationships, especially in the current economic climate, cannot be underestimated which is why atg airports are delighted to announce the imminent completion of the design, manufacture and testing of a new AGL control system at Sumburgh Airport.

The Highlands & Islands managed airport is the fourth site to select the atg Sonnis system for the control of its airfield lighting system. The project called for atg to take on the design, manufacture and testing of the control system which incorporated the latest hardwire mimic and remote I/O station in the VCR in addition to latest control and monitoring software. Communications between the VCR (Visual Control Room) and airfield substations utilised a fibre optic redundant network, and in addition to the control system a Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system was commissioned to assist the airfield maintenance engineers with fault finding and preventative maintenance.

The Sonnis system is designed to be fully compliant with all ICAO, IEC and CAP 168 standards and with the Sumburgh Airport system recently completing the necessary factory acceptance test (FAT), atg's work alongside HIAL and Ness Engineering is scheduled for completion within the next few weeks.
