Universal Fault Interrupter Protects Fuel Tank Systems form Electrical Faults

TDG Aerospace (published 23/04/2008)

TDG Aerospace, has announced that American Airlines has purchased and is now set to begin installation of the Universal Fault Interrupter (UFI) on their Boeing 737NG aircraft.

The UFI is designed to protect the center fuel tank systems from electrical faults, extended dry pump operation and un-commanded pump operation ... each of which are the subject of pending regulatory mandates. The UFI is also approved as an alternate means of compliance to FAA AD 2002-24-51, eliminating the requirement and associated cost of carrying 1,000 lbs. of extra fuel.

TDG's UFI is FAA approved under Supplemental Type Certification (STC) number ST02076LA, approving installation of TDG's UFI device on Boeing 737-600, -700, -700C, -800 and 900 series aircraft. The UFI provides comprehensive electrical fault protection and fuel pump auto-shutoff for the center tank fuel systems. The UFI installation also employs a redundant relay solution that prevents un-commanded operation of the pump in the event of a failed control relay.

American Airlines has been proactive in selecting and installing the UFI as their preferred SFAR 88 solution for the Boeing 757 and 737NG Fleets in advance of the pending regulatory activity.
